Jose Mourinho wanted me to join Manchester United last month, claims French star

PATRICE EVRA has lifted the lid on his failed move to Manchester United last month.

The Frenchman came close to joining Manchester United during the transfer window after falling out of favour at Juventus.

But despite holding talks with Jose Mourinho, someone at the club - who Evra refused to name - blocked his return to Old Trafford.

Instead, the 35-year-old signed an 18-month contract with Marseille.

“Marseille was a good opportunity,” Evra told beIN Sports.

“I tried as well to come back to Manchester United – I’m telling the truth, I have nothing to hide.

“Jose Mourinho was okay to that, but somebody was a little bit not sure about my return.

“And so when I knew Manchester was closed, I opened another door.”

Evra made 273 league appearances for the Red Devils between 2006 and 2014, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League.
