The Swede popped up with a late header to leave the Saints heartbroken after they had fought back bravely.

A 25-yard free-kick from Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in the first half, before Jesse Lingard was given too much space as he earned United's second with a cool slot past Fraser Forster.

But Manolo Gabiadini pulled one back before the break to change the momentum and then expertly took his second shortly after the break.

However, United's hitman had the final say as he matched his Community Shield contribution with a header past Forster in the dying embers to earn Jose Mourinho's side the EFL Cup.
