Why did Arsene Wenger drop Alexis Sanchez against Liverpool?
Arsene Wenger surprisngly dropped Sanchez for Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday. He has publicly insisted the decision was made to help his team go more “direct” but it is thought Wenger was punishing Sanchez for his bust-up.
Wenger relented at half-time with Arsenal 2-0 down, bringing on the Chilean ace to almost instant rewards, as he set up Danny Welbeck’s goal before the hour mark.
But Sanchez could not stop Arsenal falling to a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, which dumped them outside the top four.

"I explained after the game at Liverpool that I decided to go for a more direct option in the game and that's what happened. That was the unique reason for my decision.

"Yes, completely false, but I understand you have to fill the newspapers and we have to respect that.
