SERGIO AGUERO struck as Manchester City came from behind to earn a point against Liverpool.
By CHARLIE PHILLIPPE
A quick City break and some excellent work by Leroy Sane led to the first chance of the match for David Silva, but he sliced his half volley over.
Liverpool had a great chance to open the scoring when Sadio Mane ran through, but Nicolas Otamendi did enough to put the winger off, although the Reds thought they should have had a penalty.
City went close when Silva crossed for Fernandinho, but the Brazilian's shot dribbled into the side netting.
Adam Lallana then could have put Liverpool ahead just before half-time, but Willy Caballero pushed the England international's fierce drive over the bar.
After the break Liverpool were awarded a penalty when Gael Clichy bundled over Roberto Firmino, and James Milner stepped up to fire the ball home.
But City drew level when Kevin De Bruyne's super cross was fired home by Aguero.
Pep Guardiola's side almost grabbed a winner when the ball fell to De Bruyne after good work from Aguero and Sane, but the Belgian's strike slammed into the post.
Then at the other end Lallana had a great chance to grab a winner, but he somehow missed the ball from unmarked in the six yard box.
But neither side could find the crucial second goal and they both had to settle for a point.
