Man United and Liverpool make contact over signing £38m La Liga star: He wants to leave

MANCHESTER UNITED and Liverpool have contacted Atletico Madrid over the availability of Jose Gimenez in the summer, according to reports in Spain.

Gimenez, 22, has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho showing a particular interest in the Uruguayan international.

However, Spanish outlet AS claim Liverpool have now entered the race with United to try and lure Gimenez to England as they both bid to bolster their defensive ranks.
It is claimed the Premier League rivals have both been in touch with Gimenez's representatives about a potential summer move.

And it appears as if Liverpool and United will be locked in a transfer battle for his signature with the Uruguay international wanting to leave Atletico due to falling out of favour under Diego Simeone.
The report adds Atletico are ready to listen to offers for the centre-back, but they will only consider doing business if his release clause of £38million is met.

Gimenez has made just nine La Liga appearances this season and is contracted to Atletico until 2018.
