These two players aren't important to Arsenal and have let Wenger down

DAVID BENTLEY has told Arsene Wenger to sell Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez because they’re not important to Arsenal and have let him down.

Both players are holding Arsenal to ransom on new deals and could leave this summer as talks have been shelved.

Sanchez and Ozil want parity with the top earners in the Premier League and to at least double their current £130,000 and £140,000 weekly wages.

But Bentley says the duo are not important to the club because they don’t have the profile of some of the players who he grew up with like Ledley King and Patrick Vieira.
He argues to be indispensable to a club you can’t rely just on your ability but also must offer another element to the club and be an ambassador.

And Bentley thinks Ozil and Sanchez have let Wenger down this season and should be moved on.

“I don’t think any player is worth what people say they are unless they’re a great ambassador for the club,” Bentley told 888sport.

“Sanchez and Ozil aren’t great ambassadors for their club and they don’t offer the full make-up of their importance as great footballers. Do they do tremendous work in the community and are they great with fans and are they loyal? Are they the Paul Scholes or Roy Keane of Arsenal? I don’t think that’s the case. They’re just good footballers.
“Ferguson sold players with the same ability because he understood the game. He sold Van Nistelrooy, Jaap Stam; it’s endless how many players he let go because even though he recognised their performances and ability they weren’t that valuable to the football club.

“For me to speak about this doesn’t mean that I was that type of player. But I was in dressing rooms with Ledley King and Patrick Vieira and at Blackburn you had Ryan Nelson and Robbie Savage, people who would cane you. It’s not that they had better ability than me but as a footballer they had the complete package.

“So are Sanchez and Ozil important to their club? No, and Arsenal shouldn’t bend over to keep them. There are plenty of great footballers around the world to get. Just go online and there are loads of lads from South America running past a hundred players and banging it in the top corner.  There are others with their skill.
“To be honest they’ve become Mr Wenger’s allies, his friends within the team and Ozil and Sanchez have let their manager down because some of their behaviour is quite stupid.

“You see Ozil and he’s a great player but he’s also the kind of player that’s in youth teams. He won’t run back, he looks unbelievable for a few games but then the big game comes around and he’s nowhere to be seen. The youngsters at Arsenal will be seeing that and thinking ‘well he’s not doing it so why should I?’

“As a young player myself I’d look at Sol Campbell, and Vieira and Henry and think, ‘I’d better run here. I’d better try.’ Now they’re not scared of anyone.”
